While we  are on the topic of Charlotteville.  I took this picture using my  phone's panoramic view on  my birthday last year :) This is Fort Campbellton,  Charlotteville, Tobago.  It must have been the perfect day because this picture is perfect. Fort Campbellton According to visittobago.gov.tt this is NOT a fort despite commonly being called "Fort Campbellton". It is in fact a Battery. Batteries were positioned in various bays where sugar was loaded on the island. This battery of two guns was erected in 1777 during the American War of Independence when American privateers were raiding British islands. Tobago International Game Fishing Tournament #tigft2017

Image
"The Tobago International Game Fishing Tournament began in 1995 as a loosely organized, just-for-kicks fishing tournament staged out of Pigeon Point, Tobago. Only a handful of boats participated but it proved to be the start of something that has endured and grown well beyond those humble beginnings. Now relocated to the north end of Tobago in the wonderfully friendly village of Charlotteville, the Tobago International Game Fishing Tournament pulls in anglers from near and far; from the Caribbean to North and South America, even as far as Europe, the tournament draws big game fisherman who can appreciate great camaraderie, competition and fishing conditions." -  http://www.tigft.com/ http://www.tigft.com/gallery/ Click here for more photos REGISTRATION  TUESDAY 12TH MAY 1ST DAY OF FISHING  WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY 2ND DAY OF FISHING  THURSDAY 14TH MAY LAY-DAY ACTIVITIES  FRIDAY 15TH MAY 3RD DAY OF FISHING & PRIZE GIVING CEREMON Y

For those who want to venture underwater in Tobago. Dave's your guy. Dave Elliot has been diving for the past 11 years. He's a P.A.D.I. Certified Rescue Diver, Dive Instructor, Underwater Media Specialist (photographer/ videographer) and Kayak Guide .    Dave describes Diving as being full of adventure, yet peaceful. Its difficult for him to pinpoint his fondest diving memory because he explains, every dive is different and there is no telling what you'll see when you go under. He does however identify Speyside as his favorite place to dive.  If you'd like to dive with Dave you'll first have to do the DISCOVER SCUBA COURSE. This is not a certificate course. It is essentially a Test Dive to see if you like it and want to take it further. When making a decision to try diving Dave says to first ensure that you are in good health.  To join Dave Elliot on a diving adventure contact him via Facebook -  CLICK HERE Be sure to check out hi

#TOBAGO #Experience #PullingSEINE

Image
The early bird catches the fish? Seine Fishing, known locally as "Pulling Seine", has been practiced on the beaches of Tobago for more than 150 years.  The practice has remained largely unchanged. Regularly large groups of locals and even tourists, can be found hauling in Seine in the early morning.  When the Seine is pulled in, the practice is that the fishermen first take what they need to sell. After this there is always enough for everyone who helped, even leaving behind enough for the birds.  Beaches that you can find Seine Fishing are: Mount Irvine Bay, Turtle Beach, Black Rock, Castara, Bloody Bay, Man ‘O War Bay, Mount St.George and Goodwood.

Its Turtle watching time again and  the best place to be is "Turtle Beach" Tobago!!! Trinidad and Tobago has the third largest nesting population in the world with Leatherback Turtles coming from as far as Africa, Canada and the UK to nest on our beaches. The most important nesting site in Tobago is  Great Courland Bay  aka Turtle Beach during the months  March 1st - August 31st. The largest of all living turtles are the Leatherbacks. Leatherbacks do not have a bony shell, they get their name from the dark rubbery flexible shell which allows them to withstand the pressure of diving up to 4,000 feet. Leatherbacks can weigh up to 2000lbs and can be as long as 10 feet in length. They are more commonly average 5-7 feet and 1000 lbs.  The waters of Tobago host five of the seven marine turtles found globally! Tobago's natural beauty and unique culture have helped to shape the character and a number of artwork pieces of Trinidad-born, Tobago-bred artist Nazim Baksh. Nazim moved to Louis Dor, Tobago when he was 6 years old. Living in “country”, as locals fondly call the rural Windward side of the island, has left him with a number of fond memories of life in the village and at Delaford AC Primary School. He has a very vivid recollection of a number of entertaining episodes of an exciting yet very simple life in the countryside. Having excelled at the Common Entrance examinations Nazim was awarded a pass to attend the prestigious Bishop’s High School located in the main town of Scarborough. To ease the burden of travelling the long distance he and his family relocated to urban Tobago. Therefore a variety of experiences spanning over 30 years of residing on the both ends of Tobago have afforded Nazim the opportunity to observe, share in, and depict Tobago’s culture vibrantly thro

#TOBAGOCARNIVAL #TrinidadVsTOBAGO #COOLDOWNinParadise

Image
So who knew that CARNIVAL would be the best way to describe the difference between Trinidad and Tobago!!! Trinidad is recognized as being the commercial hub of the Nation of Trinidad and Tobago; thus having a faster pace/ having more activities/ being more active.  Tobago on the other hand though l ess developed than Trinidad, boasts of  its natural beauty. "Clean, Green, Safe and Serene", Tobago has Sun, Sea and Sand, Rain-forests, Flora and Fauna, and Underwater habitats which include the largest brain Coral in the Western Hemisphere. Paradise on Earth is TOBAGO.  The culture of the people of two islands also varies slightly as a result of not sharing the same history, therefore not having the same ethnic blend and being very village/ family oriented. This is reflected in the small variations in the Carnival Calendar of Tobago.  Most of the  CARNIVAL SEASON  action happens in Trinidad where the festival was born in the 18th century. Tobago is known to be the cool-do
